Legendary Pakistan pacer Wasim Akram has thrown his weight behind 17-year-old fast bowler Ali Raza, calling him the future of Pakistan’s bowling attack after the youngster’s impressive performances in domestic and franchise cricket.

In an interview with Wisden Cricket, Akram shared his insights on the global fast-bowling landscape and expressed optimism about Pakistan’s next generation of pace talent.

“Mitchell Starc, Jasprit Bumrah, and Shaheen Shah Afridi are all back in rhythm. Shaheen, in particular, has regained his pace, which is a great sign,” Akram said.

While discussing Pakistan’s domestic cricket, the former captain highlighted Ali Raza’s raw pace and natural ability, despite the teenager not yet featuring for the senior national side.

“I rarely watch first-class matches, but this young fast bowler, Ali Raza, has something special. If he’s guided properly and understands what it takes to be a top red-ball bowler, white-ball success will follow automatically,” Akram noted.
