November 5, 2025: Renowned Pakistani actor Hamza Ali Abbasi has said that the tendency of some people to engage in relationships outside of marriage does not end even after multiple marriages. He added that it is “surprising” when Muslims justify marriage merely as a means to avoid extramarital affairs.

Speaking on a podcast recently, Hamza Ali Abbasi discussed issues related to morality, relationships, and faith. Responding to a question about extramarital affairs, he said, “The habit of having relations outside doesn’t end. Even those who marry four times are still have relations outside because marriage is not meant to be an escape from sin — it is a lifelong commitment.”

He emphasized that people who approach marriage with the mindset that it is “better to marry than to commit sin” often fail to understand its true purpose. “If a person marries with this intention, he will repeat the same behaviour after a few months or a year because his mindset hasn’t changed. Those who say it’s better to get married than to have extramarital relationships should instead work on ending this habit,” he said.

The Alif (2019) actor further stated that such behaviour is commonly observed among men. Expressing his dismay over how lightly religion is used to justify it, he said: “I am surprised when a Muslim says it’s better to marry than to have relations outside of marriage, having extramarital relations is a major sin, and whoever does it will face severe punishment. It should not be associated with marriage in any way,” he added.

Discussing Islamic teachings, the actor said that while Islam allows men to marry up to four times, it is under specific circumstances and with strict conditions of justice. “If possible, marry only one because it’s almost impossible to do complete justice among multiple wives. Islam does not allow relations outside marriage, and all Muslims should refrain from this sin in every situation,” he concluded.
