The All Parties Hurriyat Conference has said that the Jammu massacre of 1947 remains the worst example of genocide and ethnic cleansing of Muslims in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
The APHC leaders paid rich tributes to the hundreds of thousands of Kashmiris who were martyred by the forces of Dogra ruler Maharaja Hari Singh, the Indian Army, and armed Hindu extremists in different parts of the Jammu region while migrating to Pakistan during the first week of November 1947. Every year, Kashmiris mark November 6 as Jammu Martyrs’ Day to honour the victims of the carnage.
APHC leaders, including Ghulam Muhammad Khan Sopori, Saleem Zargar, Haseeb Wani, Samad Inqilabi, Yasmeen Raja, Hafiza Fehmida, Maulana Musaib Nadvi, Prof. Zubair, and others, in their separate statements in Srinagar, said that the Jammu massacre of 1947 was the most horrific incident in the history of Jammu and Kashmir that continues to haunt the people despite the passage of seventy-eight years.
They said that the massacre, orchestrated to change the Muslim-majority demography of the region, represents the darkest chapter in Kashmir’s history. The leaders added that the killing of Kashmiri Muslims, which began in 1947, continues unabated under the present Hindutva regime.
