Afghanistan: The Balkh Chamber of Commerce and Investment says a cooperation agreement has been signed between Afghanistan and Iran in the pharmaceutical sector.
According to the agreement, Iran will assist Afghanistan in meeting its pharmaceutical needs, sharing technical expertise, diagnosing diseases, and providing medical equipment.
Haroon Rasheed Qazi, Deputy Head of the Balkh Chamber of Commerce and Investment, said: “This agreement opens a new chapter in the pharmaceutical sector. Previously, we had cooperation with Uzbekistan; now we are working with Iran, and in the future, we plan to cooperate with Turkey as well. This will help fulfill all of Afghanistan’s pharmaceutical needs.”
Seyed Mohammad Khansari, a representative of a private Iranian company, said: “We are ready to export medicine to Afghanistan, transfer technical knowledge, begin joint production, and meet all pharmaceutical needs. We hope this cooperation will serve as a remedy for the pain of our dear and fellow Muslim people.”
The Balkh Association of Medicine and Wholesale Sellers believes this agreement could end Afghanistan’s reliance on Pakistan for medicine.
Mohammad Sadiq Mohammadi, Head of the Association, added: “They have promised every kind of cooperation with us. Despite the suspension of trade with Pakistan and no current transactions, fortunately, our market is not facing a shortage of medicines, and our warehouses are well stocked.”
Previously, some pharmaceutical vendors stated that domestic production and imports from India, China, Russia, Bangladesh, and other countries would help Afghanistan eliminate its dependency on Pakistan in the pharmaceutical sector.
