India: The BCCI Apex Council will meet virtually on December 22 to review central contracts for Indian cricketers, with major decisions expected regarding the future of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the annual retainership structure. The meeting will also include discussions on women’s domestic contracts and payments for umpires and match referees.

According to a PTI report, this will be the 31st Annual General Meeting (AGM), where the BCCI leadership will evaluate the contract categories for top players. Both Kohli and Rohit, who retired from Tests and T20Is over the last year, currently feature only in the ODI setup. Despite reduced participation, they remained in the A+ contract category for the 2024–25 cycle (October 1, 2024–September 30, 2025), alongside Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja.

Meanwhile, India’s ODI and Test captain Shubman Gill is reportedly under consideration for a promotion to the A+ category, reflecting his growing leadership role. Gill, presently in Grade A, could join Bumrah and Jadeja in the top tier.

The meeting will also focus on revised remuneration for umpires and match referees, as well as updates to the BCCI’s digital platforms.

This AGM marks the first major gathering of the Apex Council following a recent administrative reshuffle. In September, Mithun Manhas took over as BCCI president, Raghuram Bhatt became treasurer, and Devajit Saikia and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia were appointed as secretary and joint secretary. Additionally, Jaydev Shah, president of the Saurashtra Cricket Association, joined the council as a newly elected representative.
