The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to discuss a major revision in the domestic pay structure for women cricketers during its Apex Council meeting scheduled for December 22. The meeting, which will be held virtually, is expected to focus on addressing long-standing disparities in match fees at the domestic level.
Following India’s remarkable Women’s ODI World Cup triumph, a revision in payments was widely anticipated. While India has already implemented pay parity between men and women at the international level, domestic cricket continues to reflect unequal compensation. The proposed update aims to bring women’s domestic cricket closer to modern professional standards.
Another key agenda point is the discussion on the annual central contracts for the men’s team. With senior players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli having retired from two formats of international cricket, their new grading within the contract structure will be closely watched.
The Apex Council will also consider revised match fees for umpires and match referees, an area the BCCI has been working to improve as the domestic cricket ecosystem expands. Final decisions on these changes are expected during the 7 PM meeting on December 22.
