ISLAMABAD, Jan 22 (APP):Secretary Health Punjab Barrister Nabeel Ahmad Awan Wednesday said that Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar has approved the PC-1 of project for Bone Marrow Transplant center in Lahore which will be constructed from next fiscal year 2020-21.

Talking to private news channel, he said, on the directions of Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar, it has been decided to launch Punjab Institute for blood disease project in the province and Chief Minister Usman Buzdar has also granted approval for setting up Punjab Institute for blood disease.
Replying to a question, he said funds for this important project will be allocated in the next financial year budget.

He also directed that land should be earmarked soon for this project and necessary measures should being settled regarding this project so that work should be started on this project in the next fiscal year.
PTI government wanted to set up latest institute for the patients of blood diseases, he added.
Replying to a question, he said a state-of-Art center would be established in Punjab which provide quality treatment to the blood cancer patients.

He explained that ‘Bone marrow transplantation (BMT)’ center would provide special therapy for patients with certain cancer types and other blood disorders and this transplant procedure would performed to treat patients with challenging cases and other rare disease such as Thalassemia, Leukemia, Myeloma, Lymphoma and Aplastic Anemia.

This center will made for 100 beds and 1000 OPDs for patients, he said, adding, annually around one hundred patients would get this transplant facility.

He said that within next year in mid of June this project would be start functional and no negligence or delays will be tolerated in the ongoing construction work as Chief minister Punjab was serious concerned with this ongoing speedy project.

He said best medical care facilities will be provided to the patients admitted in this center.
Lives of those suffering from blood disease especially children will also be saved by making timely diagnosis, he made it clear. Setting up of this institute will prove to be an important milestone in the medical history of the province, he maintained.

Talking about experts in center, he informed that Chief Minister Punjab has appointed Project Director Dr. Tahir Shamsi who is the pioneer of bone marrow in Pakistan and the Director of National Institute of Blood Diseases, Karachi (NIBD).

Usman Buzdar directed to complete Bone Marrow Transplant Center Project on priority basis and this important project should be made operational during current year.

He also directed to allocate funds for this project and no shortage will be made in the resources for setting up Bone Marrow Transplant Center. With the completion of this project, patients of South Punjab and from other adjoining areas will be greatly benefited.
