Lahore, 30th April: An informal meeting chaired by Deputy Chairman Senate Saleem Mandviwala via video link (Webinar) was held today which was attended by senate members.
According to Baaghi TV, the meeting among the senate members was held on the situation caused by the coronavirus, issues facing the people, Aiwan e- Baala, and important matters were under discussion.
Senators Mushahid Hussain Syed, Faisal Javed, Rukhsana Zubair, Usman Kakar, Rana Maqbool, Mian Atiq Sheikh, Imam Din Shoqeen, Sirajul Haq, Waleed Iqbal, Mehr Taj Roghani, Hasil Bizenjo, Lt Gen (retd) Salahuddin Tirmidhi, Pervez Rashid, Dr. Asif Kirmani, Sikandar Mandhro, Kulsoom Parveen, Zeeshan Khanzada, Ghous Muhammad Niazi, Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri and Sitara Ayaz participated.
Deputy Chairman Senate Saleem Mandviwala and Members of the Senate have appealed to strictly follow the SOPs made to control the spread of the pandemic.
The capacity of video conferencing for holding the Senate session was also reviewed. Mandviwala said that given the current situation, modern technology has to be used.
Steps need to be taken to convene a Senate session among members in light of the rules and regulations through a video conference.
Deputy Chairman stressed that the epidemic is causing an extraordinary situation. A meeting of the Aiwan-e-Baala has become necessary and the whole situation should be discussed thoroughly.
Mandviwala said that we have a solid strategy. If the government does not convene a meeting, the opposition has the option of convening a meeting through the requisition.
Deputy Chairman Senate said that the whole nation has to fight the deadly disease together. The video conference was welcomed by the members.
Tribute was paid to health workers, doctors, nurses, security personnel, PIA pilots, and all those who are playing their part.
