Pakistan and India had closed the border crossing points as part of efforts to check and stop the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).

India went into lockdown on March 14, which caused a lot of inconvenience to some Pakistanis who were in India mainly on medical and religious grounds. However, Pakistan closed the border on March 19 due to the pandemic.

India is likely to repatriate another batch of stranded Pakistani nationals via Attari-Wagah border on May 5. Notably, since the lockdown was announced, India earlier repatriated 50 Pakistani nationals to Pakistan. Those repatriated included Sikhs, Hindus and Muslims.

According to reports, 192 Pakistani nationals are likely to repatriate on May 5 via Attari-Wagah border.
