Shaheen Raza, a PTI MPA in the Punjab Assembly, died of COVID-19 Wednesday morning. She was 69.

According to Gujranwala Deputy Commissioner Sohail Akhtar, Raza was under treatment at Lahore’s Mayo Hospital.

Shaheen Raza had been quarantined in DHQ Hospital after she showed symptoms of COVID-19 on May 16. That is when her sample had been sent to be tested. Once it came positive, she was shifted to Mayo Hospital and put on the ventilator on the orders of Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar.

Prime Minister Imran Khan and Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar have expressed their grief at the PTI leader’s demise. Raza’s body will reach Gujranwala by evening where she will be buried under coronavirus SOPs.

Moreover, Mian Muhammad Sareer, the elder brother of ANP central Secretary General, Mian Iftikhar Hussain, also died of coronavirus on Tuesday.

Mian Iftikhar Hussain had also tested positive for Covid-19 but he attended the last funeral rites of his elder brother after taking precautionary measures. It may be mentioned here that Mian Iftikhar Hussain shared the same home with his elder brother.

The ANP leader confirmed that he had tested positive for coronavirus. Iftikhar said he had quarantined himself in his home and was taking medicines for the infection.

Sindh Education Minister Saeed Ghani, Sindh Governor Imran Ismail and National Assembly speaker Asad Qaiser are some of the many political leaders who had also contracted the virus.

Pakistan has reported over 45,000 known coronavirus cases and nearly 1,000 fatalities so far.
