Farwa Batool, a member of the Hazara community in Quetta, Balochistan, Pakistan, has managed to win first place in Balochistan and ninth place across Pakistan, in the Central Superior Service (CSS) examination this year.
Talking about her success, Farwa said, “The last result of the CSS exam came on June 17 at 5 pm. Shortly after the results came out, I saw a picture of myself on social media with a lot of congratulations and prayers for me. I am very grateful to all of them.”
Farwa is the eldest child of his parents and has two younger brothers. Regarding her childhood, Farwa says that from the very beginning her parents wanted their children to get higher education.
She says that her mother used to take time out of her housework to teach her and maybe that is why her educational base was good from an early age and she was mostly a position holder in her school.

Talking about her father, Farwa said that her father always wanted his children to make a name for the Hazara community and so he made sure that his children always had good opportunities. He made sure that we were studying in the best educational institutions, she added.
“I will give all the credit for my success to my parents who educated me and enabled me to face them no matter how difficult the situation,” she says.
Referring to her childhood and educational journey, Farwa said, “I got my early education from the Garrison Academy in Quetta. In 2007 our family moved to Karachi where I did O Level from Beacon House School and then A Level from Lyceum School.”
She graduated from Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) in 2018 with a degree in Accounting and Finance, after which she joined the banking sector. Farwa says it was not easy for her to move to another city to study. However, here too her parents supported her and made this difficult stage easier for her.
“From the beginning, my parents left it up to me to decide which field to choose for my career,” she says. All I knew was that I like accounting and I will continue to do so.
“Studying at Lums University was not easy because the costs were so high there, and once the economic situation at home started to be bad that my mother told me that I might have to drop out, but then I took help from financial aid at university,” says Farwa. She applied for Financial Aid and studied for two more years.
Farwa says she intends to join the civil service after graduation. “I didn’t know much about the civil service before, nor has anyone in my family been in the civil service before. My teachers used to tell me that we see this ability in you. They suggested me to give this test.”

Farwa started learning about CSS exams after graduation and after getting information about it from the people around her, she became interested in taking competitive exams.
According to Farwa, “In August 2018, I started studying for this exam.” Farwa says that she used to go to the library for nine hours to prepare for CSS. In this way, she worked hard for seven consecutive months to prepare for CSS exams. She went to Islamabad to prepare for the interview and joined the academy.
Farwa says she was sometimes afraid that she would not be able to pass the test. I made this test a matter of life and death for myself and pledged myself to pass this test no matter what. She says she has been stressed many times while preparing for the CSS exam.
“Some people were afraid that it would not be easy to pass. “Sometimes I feel like I’m not wasting my time doing all this.” She says that her parents always encouraged her in such situations and explained the ups and downs of life and said that both failure and success are part of life.
“I was asked a question in my CSS interview, what is the purpose of my life?” and I replied there that my parents are my strength to move forward in life, and if there is anyone who has influenced me in life, it is the women of the Hazara community who are the best despite the difficult circumstances. They are working, which encourages me to be like them.
“My goal for the future is to do justice to the responsibility of the public office that will be given to me,” said Farwa Batool, referring to her future strategy.
She says that honesty is very important for a person to achieve anything in life.
