Dodoma: Precious stones made poor miners rich in one day. A Tanzanian man sold two gemstones to the government for 3.3 million.
According to details, a small-scale miner in the East African country of Tanzania became a millionaire overnight after selling two precious Tanzanian or Tanzanite stones to the government.
According to the foreign news agency, the 52-year-old, Saniniu Laizer found the stones in the Mirarani mountain range. The stones weighs 9.27 and 5.1 kilograms, respectively. Tanzanian sold these precious stones to the government for about ً3.3 million.

President John Magofoli erected a fence in the area in 2018 to stop the smuggling of precious stones. Tanzanite was first discovered in 1967 at the foot of Kelly Manjaro Mountain. These gemstones are also found in Manyara in northern Tanzania. This stone is in great demand in the country.
Speaking at a function on the discovery of the rocks, the mining minister said it was the largest discovery in the country so far. “Laizer is our millionaire, let’s make sure that he’s safe,” he said.

“We are moving beyond the situation where small-scale miners used to smuggle Tanzanite, now these miners are following government procedures and paying taxes and royalties to the government,” he added.
Saniniu Laizer hopes to use the money to develop its community. With this money, I plan to build a mall in Arusha and a school near my home.
“I am thankful to God for this achievement and this is the first time I have discovered stones of this size. When I found them, I informed the government officials. They estimated the stones and today I was called to collect the amount of it.

The government wrote on its Twitter account that the stones would be kept in the National Museum. The country’s president telephoned Saniniu Laizer during the ceremony.
President John Magofoli said it was for the benefit of smallholders and was proof that Tanzania was a rich country.
