Amendment in Rules on not Allowing Lawyers their Right to Vote, Challenged in IHC

ISLAMABAD, July 02 (APP): The amendment on disallowing the lawyers to exercise their right to vote for two years after awarding of license by Pakistan Bar Council has been challenged in Islamabad High Court (IHC).

Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani of IHC took up for hearing petition filed by Islamabad Bar Association Thursday.

The court while issuing notice to vice chairman Pakistan Bar Council has called reply from him.

The court has issued notice to Attorney General Khalid Javed for next hearing. Notice has also been issued on the petition seeking stay order against Pakistan Bar Council amendment bill.

The lawyers Shoaib Shaheen and Umair Baloch challenged the amendment in bill.

It was  said in the petition that  amendment has been  made in Pakistan  Legal  Practitioners and Bar Council rules 1976. The young lawyers have  been affected  in the  wake of amendment made in section 175-K of Pakistan Bar Council rules. Pakistan Bar Council has  deprived the young lawyers of their right to vote for two years through amendment.  This amendment is illegal. The licensed lawyers cannot be kept deprived of their right to vote.

Not giving the right to the lawyers to elect their leader  is beyond comprehension.

The court has been prayed to annul this amendment being discriminatory.
