Peshawar, July 17 (Online Int’l): Dr Zia-ul-Haq, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Khyber Medical University (KMU), Peshawar, has taken over the charge of Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University after the completion of three years tenure of Prof. Dr. Arshad Javaid as VC KMU. Prof. Dr. Zia has the unique honor of being the youngest Vice Chancellor of the country. He will hold the post until a new Vice-Chancellor on permanent basis is appointed.
Dr Haq termed his appointment as a sign of trust of the provincial government and reiterated his commitment not only to meet the expectations of the provincial government but since he is among the pioneer faculty members of KMU, he would work day and night to make KMU one of the leading universities in the country with the spirit of honesty, sincerity, merit and above all the fear of God.
It is worth mentioning that Dr Haq hails from a respectable Syed family of district Dir Upper and has been performing his duties as Pro Vice Chancellor for the last one year and Dean Public Health for the last two years. He received a Fellowship from the Royal College of Public Health, UK.
He has been Director Research, KMU. He has also been the Director of the Institute of Public Health and Social Sciences. He holds a PhD in Public Health from the University of Glasgow, UK. Apart from being the author of several research articles, Dr. Zia-ul-Haq is also the founder of the first Public Health Reference Laboratory in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In addition to establishing a Business Incubation Center at KMU, he also has the honor of initiating a PhD in Public Health and Family Medicine for the first time in the province.
In addition to the Best Teacher Award from the Higher Education Commission for his professional services, he has also received Best Young Researcher and Lifetime Achievement Awards for his research and academic contribution in the University.
He is also honoured to have provided a multi-grant of Rs 1.5 billion under various projects to KMU. Dr. Zia-ul-Haq has rendered outstanding services in the field of public health due to which the present provincial government has also made him a member of the six-member Health Advisory Committee of the Health Department.
Meanwhile, Higher Education Department Advisor to Chief Minister Khaliq-ur-Rehman, KMU Outgoing Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Arshad Javaid, Former Vice Chancellors Prof. Dr. Muhammad Daud Khan, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Hafizullah, Registrar Prof. Dr. Saleem Gandapur and all the Doctors’ Associations while welcoming the appointment of Dr. Zia-ul-Haq as Acting Vice Chancellor, hoped that his appointment will not only help KMU in its broader fields of knowledge and research but his experience will be of benefit and will also help in strengthening the university administratively and financially.
