Turkish President visits Aya Sofia, reviews mosque preparations

Recep Tayyip Erdoğan paid a surprise visit to Aya Sofia and inspected the construction work of the mosque. Authorities also briefed him and the Turkish president took pictures in the mosque.

According to the details, there will be five regular prayers in the mosque from July 24 (Friday) and the Turkish president will also offer Friday prayers in the mosque.

It should be noted that the Supreme Judicial Council of Turkey recently decided to convert a 1,500-year-old UNESCO World Heritage Site from a museum to a mosque.

Following the court ruling, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has signed a presidential decree to convert Aya Sofia from a museum to a mosque, after which the status of Aya Sofia’s museum has ceased and it is controlled by the Turkish Department of Religious Affairs.
