ISLAMABAD, July 21 (Online):Supreme Court (SC) has suspended Peshawar High Court (PHC) order pertaining to release of 196 alleged terrorists convicted and sentenced by military courts.
A 3-member bench of SC presided over by Justice Mushir Alam took up for hearing a petition filed by the federation on Tuesday.
The court while issuing notices to the respondents has sought details of the Cases against the terrorists from federal government.
During the course of hearing the case Justice Qazi Amin remarked the criminals were sentenced after their trial in military courts. Every case has its own evidence and facts.
The court inquired are the terrorists in jails after the issuance of court orders for their release.
Additional Attorney General (AAG) informed the court the convicts have not been set free so far.
AAG prayed the court to suspend PHC orders.
The court while suspending PHC verdict issued notices to respondents besides summoning all the record of the criminals.
During June 2020, PHC had nullified the sentences of 196 persons while announcing judgment on the appeal pleas filed by them against their conviction by military courts on different charges. The court had summoned the record of more 100 persons.
PHC bench comprising justice Waqar Ahmad Seth and Justice Naeem Anwar had heard over 300 petitions.
