LAHORE (25th July, 2020): Since its Partition from India in 1947, the Pakistan government has issued stamps on multiple occasions. The first four stamps were reportedly released in July of 1948.

According to reports of Baaghi TV, Pakistan Post has issued more than 600 sets and 1,300 plus single stamps since 1947. Following the Independence in 1947, Pakistan inherited the system of a divided postal system which had been established during the British Raj in the Sub-continent.

Later in November of 1947, when Pakistan joined the Universal Postal Union and established a new system, the ruling government issued its first set of four stamps on the 9th of July, 1948. The stamps were imprinted as ’15th August 1947′ as there was looming confusion as to the date of Independence, which was reportedly cleared n early 1949 when the Independence Day was officially declared as the 14th of August to separate it from India’s Independence, respectively.

This first set of stamps consisted of approximately, twenty stamps and depicted:

  • The scales of justice
  • Crescent and star
  • Sukkur Barrage [earlier known as Lloyd’s Barrage]
  • Karachi Port Trust building
  • Salimullah hostel, Dacca University [now in Bangladesh, post-1971 partition]
  • Khyber Pass
