Passengers of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and other airlines bound for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are stuck at the airports.

According to details, the process of obtaining an approval from the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICA) was terminated by the UAE government before arrival in the country yesterday.

However, when PK-217 Peshawar to Abu Dhabi passengers arrived at the airports, visa approval was not sent during the check-in process. PIA management contacted Abu Dhabi airport officials, who said the ICA approval had been revoked and there was no problem.

However, immigration officials warned the PIA that if such passengers arrived, they would be deported and the airline would be fined. Yesterday, 59 passengers of PIA could not board the flight from Peshawar to Abu Dhabi and are still stranded at the airport.

Moreover, 83 passengers of a private airline were dropped off from Islamabad to Abu Dhabi yesterday.

According to the national carrier spokesman, PIA is in touch with Abu Dhabi Airport authorities through its country managers to clear the confusion. If the issue is not resolved soon, Pakistan will also seek help from diplomatic sources, said PIA spokesman Abdullah Khan.
