We will amend the law to punish sex offenses such as castration: Faisal Javed

Islamabad September 11 (Online): Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting,Senator Faisal Javed Khan has said that amendments will be made in the law to bring severe punishments like castration to eradicate sexual crimes from the country.

Demonstrated responsibility, PEMRA, and PTV run effective public awareness campaigns to prevent such crimes. He expressed these views while addressing the Senate Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting here yesterday.

Expressing regret over the tragedy, he said that such crimes should be punished severely and PEMRA and PTV should run public awareness campaigns so that no one would dare to commit such a crime. He said that laws would be amended to bring castration-like punishments for such criminals so that people would refrain from committing the crime out of fear.

He said that the media proved its responsibility by not revealing the identity of the victim and her family in the recent incident. We hope that our media will take care of this in the future as well.

Various issues were discussed in the meeting, including the publication of deleted words in the national newspaper, the role of political party leaders in the media, the government in PTV talk shows and these include the proportion of opposition representatives, the publication of baseless news in the media, the status of the media as an industry, and the performance of Pakistan’s publicity wing.
