BEIJING: A new wave of the coronavirus has erupted in the Jilin city of China.
According to Baaghi TV, the northeastern Chinese city of Jilin has partially closed its borders after a local coronavirus cluster came into being. New cases in the city have raised fears of a second wave of disease in China.
Jailan, a city of more than 4 million people, suspended bus service on Wednesday, saying it would only allow residents to leave the city if they had tested negative for the coronavirus in the past 48 hours. The indefinite period of ‘Strict Isolation’ will be followed.
The local government said in a statement that all cinemas, indoor gyms, internet cafes, and other associated entertainment venues should be closed immediately, while pharmacies should report all sales of fever and antiviral drugs.

A new wave of infection was reported on the outskirts of Shaolin over the weekend, with the deputy mayor of Jilin warning on Wednesday that the situation was “extremely severe and complex” and “at risk of further spread”.
Six new cases were reported in the city on Wednesday, all of which are linked to Shaolin, bringing the total number of cases related to 21. All sorts of the movement have been restricted in the city.
According to state broadcaster CCTV, train services from the main railway station in Jilin were also suspended on Wednesday morning.
In recent days, after no cases have been reported in Wuhan for several weeks, a campaign is underway to test all 11 million residents of the city where the coronavirus was detected late last year.
The total number of cases of coronavirus in the world has reached 483,000 while more than 292,000 people have died of the virus.
