A Unique Case: Man Tests Covid Positive For 305 Days Straight
A UK based 72 year old man tested positive for Covid-19 for 305 days straight. It is said to be the longest recorded covid-19 case till date.
Dave Smith has a compromised immune system due to which he suffered from Corona Virus the longest.
According to updates, after 305 days he has finally tested negative for the virus.
He explained that his condition used to get so worse that his wife used to began funeral preparations. He hilariously told that he even called his family members and made peace with them but now he regrets opening up.
He was admitted to hospital with the complaint of cough and a mild fever. On testing for Covid, positive report came in.
He was discharged after eight days but he was still suffering from breathlessness and went on to have interspersed acute deteriorations associated with fever due to which he was admitted to hospital again.
Consultants report that the virus in his body was active throughout the 10 months.
Smith recovered after treatment with a cocktail of synthetic antibodies developed by the US biotech firm which was allowed for this special case while it is not approved for anyone else. This treatment helped him recover and survive from which he thought was impossible.
Smith special Covid-19 case is now being studied by virologist Andrew Davidson at the University of Bristol.
A paper on his case will be presented at the European Congress of Clinical Microbiology & Infectious Diseases in July, saying that his is thought to be “the longest infection recorded in the literature”.
Smith had a history of lung disease and had recently recovered from leukaemia when he caught the virus in March 2020.
