Dec 18, 2021: Acting Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Mottaqi arrived in Pakistan today to attend a meeting of OIC foreign ministers, Afghan media reported.

Mottaqi discussed his country’s economic situation with German Special Representative for Afghanistan Jasper Wieck. According to Afghan media, the two officials discussed issues related to humanitarian aid in Afghanistan.

Earlier, before leaving for Pakistan, Mottaqi told reporters at Kabul International Airport that the meeting of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in Islamabad was very important for Afghanistan.

FM Mutaqqi earlier reiterated,”We will not allow the soil of Afghanistan to be used against any other country.”

At the insistence of Saudi Arabia, Pakistan had decided to host a meeting of OIC foreign ministers in Islamabad. The purpose of the OIC meeting was to address the growing humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan and to draw the world’s attention to the people of the war-torn country, who are at great risk of starvation and disease.

Prime Minister Imran Khan will deliver the keynote address. Islamabad is playing a key role in bringing the world and the Taliban together on a single platform in the hope of finding a lasting solution to the crisis facing Afghanistan. The Afghan delegation to the meeting is being led by Foreign Minister Amir Khan Mottaqi.

Pakistan has repeatedly stressed that lack of immediate response will lead to malnutrition for about 22.8 million people and malnutrition for about 3.2 million children.

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi had earlier said that “the extraordinary meeting of the OIC in Islamabad will be a step towards finding a solution to the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan and it is for world capitals to talk to Taliban representatives about the ground realities.”  He added: “In the event of such a crisis, the country’s neighbors, including Pakistan, and the EU states will have to prepare for another influx of refugees. We expect some financial assistance from OIC member states. “
