Aug 29, 2021: Pakistan’s government has reversed its decision to bring Afghan transit passengers to Karachi for security reasons and has decided to bring them only to Islamabad.
According to sources, the Sindh government has been informed about the change in the passenger transfer plan. However, Lahore and Karachi airports are currently ready for Afghan transit passengers and remain on standby.
“Afghan transit passengers to Islamabad will be transferred out of the country in the shortest possible time, and from the airport, transit passengers will be accommodated in hotels only when absolutely necessary.”
By Saturday afternoon, two Italian military planes and a Ukrainian had flown from Kabul to Islamabad.
On one occasion, 107 passengers arrived at Islamabad Airport, including three passengers bound for Doha, who accidentally boarded an Italian plane and flew to Islamabad.
The FIA Immigration issued a 72-hour visa on arrival after the investigation. 104 Afghans were accommodated in the lounge at the airport as transit passengers.
The Ukrainian military plane also arrived at Islamabad airport with 129 passengers and 11 crew members, who will be accommodated until they return home.
According to details, more than 400 planes have taken off from Kabul International Airport and landed at Islamabad International Airport after the situation in Afghanistan deteriorated.
Following the situation in Afghanistan, the expected large-scale evacuation operation to evacuate foreigners and Afghans stranded at Kabul airport due to Thursday’s bombings could not begin.
However, at the New Islamabad International Airport, embassies of different countries have set up counters for the convenience of residents of their respective countries or Afghans who want to relocate to countries that have been completed by the Civil Aviation Authority.
According to sources, desks of Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland, Turkey, Belgium, Korea and Denmark have been set up at New Islamabad International Airport to facilitate evacuation.
The Italian military plane with 206 passengers and eight crew members left Islamabad Airport for Italy.
According to airport sources, an Italian C130 plane with 11 crew members landed at Islamabad airport to refuel and left for Kuwait.
