The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate praised the reopening of the Saudi Arabian Embassy in Kabul, stating that this decision is important for expanding diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Hafiz Zia Ahmad Takal, Deputy Spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said: “We are optimistic that with the reopening of this embassy, relations between Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia will strengthen, and issues concerning Afghans in Saudi Arabia will be addressed promptly, with adequate facilities provided.”

The Saudi Arabian Embassy in Kabul announced late yesterday that it has resumed its diplomatic activities in Afghanistan.

The embassy wrote on X: “Given the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s desire to provide all services to the brotherly people of Afghanistan, it has been decided that the Kingdom’s representation in Kabul will resume its activities starting December 22.”

Abdul Sadiq Hamidzoy, a political analyst, commented on the importance of relations with Saudi Arabia: “Saudi Arabia currently maintains very close ties with the West and holds geographical significance. This step can influence other countries and encourage them to take similar actions.”

Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate, said that the Islamic Emirate has representation and diplomatic centers in more than twenty countries that handle consular activities.

He said: “Afghanistan has representation and diplomatic centers in over twenty locations that manage consular activities, and this process is expanding.”

After the fall of the republican system on August 15, 2021, many countries closed their embassies in Kabul and ended official diplomatic presence in the country.

On November 30, 2021, a 14-member Saudi Arabian diplomatic team returned to Kabul to begin consular services for Afghans. However, a year later, Reuters reported, citing three informed sources, that Saudi diplomats had left Afghanistan due to security concerns and relocated to Pakistan.
