Azizullah Fazli, the new chairman of Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB), has said that he will visit Pakistan this week to invite the Pakistan team to Afghanistan for the one day international (ODI) series.

According to media reports, the Afghanistan cricket team has made rapid progress over the past few years, playing the best game in cricket and Afghan league spinner Rashid Khan is considered one of the most important players in the world’s best leagues. However, demands for a boycott of the men’s cricket team surfaced after the Taliban took over last month.

The change of government has called into question the future of Afghanistan’s participation in Test matches, as the International Cricket Council (ICC) rules require member countries to have an active women’s team as well. The Taliban have not yet announced a policy on the women’s cricket team, but a senior official said it was not necessary.

The England and New Zealand teams have recently cancelled a tour of Pakistan and when asked about this, the chairman of the Afghanistan Cricket Board declined to comment, saying he intended to visit other regional cricketing powers. “I will be visiting Pakistan on September 25, 2021 and then go to India, Bangladesh and the United Arab Emirates (UAE),” Fazli said.

Fazli said he would meet the new chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Rameez Raja, and offer to host the scheduled series in Afghanistan in September.

The three-match ODI series between Pakistan and Afghanistan has been cancelled due to logistical problems and the spread of COVID-19 in Sri Lanka, which is part of the ODI league to qualify for the 2023 World Cup.

“We are working to improve Afghanistan cricket so that it comes with the cooperation of other countries,” Fazli added.

Rameez Raja has confirmed that Azizullah Fazli will visit Pakistan. Azizullah Fazli, who served on the board from September 2018 to July 2019, has become chairman for the second time and said he is committed to improving facilities in Afghanistan.

Afghanistan is in Group 2 of the Super 12 stage of the T20 World Cup, which starts on October 17, 2021 in the UAE. Australia has threatened to cancel a scheduled Test match against Afghanistan in Brisbane in November if the Taliban do not allow the women’s team to play cricket.
