Lahore, 20th April: Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi left for Iran on Tuesday after successfully completing a three-day visit to the United Arab Emirates.
At the airport, senior UAE Foreign Ministry officials, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the UAE Afzal Mahmood and senior embassy officials bid farewell to the Foreign Minister.
Before leaving for Iran, the Foreign Minister’s recorded an important video message regarding the aims and objectives of the visit to Iran.
FM Qureshi said, “I am very grateful to the Foreign Minister of Iran, Mr Jawad Zarif, for visiting Pakistan several times. We had very important meetings.”
Shah Mahmood Qureshi added, “Today I am leaving for Iran where I will have the opportunity to discuss the situation in the region with the Iranian leadership.”
He further added, “As you know, there have been many new developments in the Afghan peace process. As Afghanistan’s neighbour, the Afghan peace process is as important to Iran as it is to us.”
He said, “I will also have the opportunity to know their views in this regard. In this regard, our aim is to create uniformity in strategy after consultation.”
Qureshi thanked the Supreme Leadership of Iran who has taken a very clear and unequivocal stand on the Kashmir issue and has always supported his position.
Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi will also discuss the possibility of advancing bilateral relations with Iran.
FM Qureshi informed that Iran approves Pakistan’s proposal for border markets.
The minister concluded his message by reiterating that we will strive to make our bilateral relations stronger and more stable than ever before.
