A Gulfstream IV SP aircraft of the Helidosa company attempting to land minutes after beginning a flight to Florida crashed in the vicinity of the Las Americas International Airport (LAIA), located in the capital of the Dominican Republic, Santo Domingo.
According to the details, the aircraft, registration HI1050, bound for Orlando, in the United States (US) had on board two crew members, Luis Alberto Eljuri and Victor Emilio Herrera, and seven passengers.
All nine people aboard, including Puerto Rican music producer José Ángel Hernández and family, were killed in the unfortunate incident. The plane had departed from El Higüero airport for Orlando, however, it crashed shortly before seeking to land at LAIA in the Dominican Republic’s capital, Santo Domingo.
The Halidosa Aviation Group said in a statement on Twitter that seven passengers and two crew members were killed in the crash at Los America Airport in the capital, Santo Domingo.
According to Flight Radar 24, the ill-fated flight was en route to Florida when it made an emergency landing and crashed just 15 minutes after takeoff. The cause of the accident could not be immediately ascertained. Rescue operations are underway at the scene and the administration and other officials, including investigators, are present.
The airport has shut down operations after the accident, canceling hundreds of flights.
