Airports lack explosive detection equipments: SSC Aviation

A meeting for the Senate Standing Committee (SSC) on Aviation was held today in Old PIPS Hall, Parliament Lodges, Islamabad under the chairmanship of Senator Hidayat Ullah.

According to the details, agenda of the meeting was to give briefing on the role/functions of Aviation Division and its attached departments. In the meeting, it was revealed by the Senate Standing Committee that not all airports in the country have explosive detection equipments.

An important revelation was made by the officials of the Airport Security Force (ASF) that ASF does not have the equipment to check the explosives at the airports. “We will recommend to the government to ensure the supply of equipment,” the ASF official said. The committee assured the ASF that the shortage of equipment would be met.

Earlier, in December 2020, the Sindh High Court (SHC) directed the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to make immediate arrangements for obtaining necessary explosive detection equipment to improve safety at airports.

Furthermore, the SHC directed the airport security force to maintain complete security at all the airports nationwide and safeguard CAA against ‘acts of unlawful interference in accordance with the ASF Act’.
