Ajit Doval chairs NSA-level meeting on Afghanistan

India: The developments in Afghanistan have important implications for the country’s neighbours and the region, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval said on Wednesday, while chairing a regional conference of NSAs in the National Capital over the crisis.

Seven countries, including Iran, Russia, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan, have attended the high-level meeting. Pakistan and China, two Asian countries with stake in Afghanistan, have skipped the dialogue.

“It is a privilege for India to host this dialogue today. We have been keenly watching the developments in Afghanistan. These have important implications not only for the people of Afghanistan but also for its neighbours and the region,” Doval said.

“This is a time for close consultations amongst us, greater cooperation and interaction and cooperation among the regional countries. I’m confident that our deliberations will be productive, useful and will contribute to help people of Afghanistan and enhance our collective security,” he added.

Doval’s counterparts expressed concerns over the security situation in Afghanistan. “We’re concerned about the prevailing situation in Afghanistan. The social and economic situation of Afghans is deteriorating and the country is facing a humanitarian crisis. it is necessary to increase humanitarian assistance,” Karim Massimov, Chairman, Kazakhstan National Security Committee, said at the conference.

Rear Admiral Ali Shamkhani, Secretary, National Security Council of Iran, said, “There’s a crisis of migration, refugees in Afghanistan and solution can come with the formation of an inclusive government, and participation of all ethnic groups.”

Marat M Imankulov, Secretary of the Security Council of Kyrgyzstan, said: “It’s a very difficult situation in our region and all over the world; this is regarding terrorist organizations in Afghanistan. With joint efforts…help should be extended to Afghan people”.
