Ali Zafar Case: Meesha Shafi appeals at LHC

Lahore, 26th October: Pakistani singer Meesha Shafi has approached the Lahore High Court to stay proceedings on a defamation suit filed by actor and singer Ali Zafar.
Baaghi TV: A petition filed by Meesha Shafi against Ali Zafar was rejected. The court had rejected the petition to stay the proceedings on the contempt claim of singer Meesha Shafi.
Lahore Sessions Court Judge Yasir Ali had heard Meesha Shafi’s plea. The Additional Sessions Judge had rejected Shafi’s defamation suit and summoned her witnesses on October 27.
However, now Meesha Shafi has filed a petition in the Lahore High Court to stay the proceedings on Ali Zafar’s claim in which Ali Zafar has also been made a party.
Shafi filed the petition in the Lahore High Court through her lawyer Saqib Jilani.
The petition seeks a stay of the defamation suit pending the outcome of the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) cybercrime wing case.
It may be recalled that Meesha Shafi, on October 10 had filed a petition in the Sessions Court in Lahore seeking stay or adjournment of the contempt proceedings against him for the time being.
The singer had told the court in a petition filed through her lawyers that a criminal case of cybercrime had been filed against her and her witnesses in the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) which had frightened her witnesses. Therefore, the defamation hearing should be adjourned for the time being.
The court had sought a reply from Ali Zafar by October 13 after a brief hearing on Meesha Shafi’s application.
Ali Zafar told the court in his reply that a cybercrime case was filed against the witnesses of Meesha Shafi who were campaigning against him on social media and the hearing of the defamation case was not adjourned using this case as an excuse.
