Ali Zafar Mesha Shafi case: Effat Omar fails to appear as a witness

February 11, 2021: Acclamied actress Effat Omar could not appear in the hearing of the defamation case filed against singer Mesha Shafi by world renowned actor and singer Ali Zafar on February 10.

BaaghiTV: The defamation case was heard under the chairmanship of Additional Sessions Judge Imtiaz Ali in which Effat Umar could not appear as a witness and his lawyers filed a petition seeking exemption for her from appearing in court.

Effat Omar’s lawyers told the court that the actress was in Karachi, the capital of Sindh province, for urgent work, due to which she could not appear in the hearing today and if she did not appear, her presence should accept her request for exemption.

The court accepted the petition filed by Effat Omar but ordered the actress to appear at the next hearing by February 17. In the last hearing itself, the court had directed Ali Zafar’s lawyers to complete the cross-examination from Effat Omar to the next hearing and the court had initially summoned him on February 1.

Effat Omar could not even appear in the hearing on February 10 to complete the interrogation and now the court has directed Ali Zafar’s lawyers to complete the interrogation from the actress till the next hearing.
