Alvi denies he signed Official Secrets Act bill
President Arif Alvi said that as God is his witness, he did not sign Official Secrets Amendment Bill 2023 & Pakistan Army Amendment Bill 2023.
He said he disagreed with these laws.
President Alvi said that he asked his staff to return the bills unsigned within stipulated time to make them ineffective.
“I confirmed from them many times that whether they have been returned & was assured that they were,” he said.
Alvi claimed that however he have found out today that his staff undermined his will and command.
“As Allah knows all, He will forgive IA. But I ask forgiveness from those who will be effected,” he said.
President Dr. Arif Alvi signed the Official Secrets Act and Army Act Amendment Bills.
The Official Secrets Act and the Army Act Amendment Bills have been passed by the National Assembly and the Senate. After the President’s signature, both bills have become law.
