Ambassador Masood Khan discusses bilateral ties with US

On Tuesday Ambassador to the United States Masood Khan held a meeting at the Senate Hart Building with Senator Jack Reed, chairman of the US Senate Armed Services Committee and member of the Intelligence, Appropriations and Banking Committees. He has visited Pakistan at various points in the past and has had many leadership positions in the Senate.

The Pakistani envoy spoke about Pakistan’s desire to further develop the relationship between the two countries in terms of security. Senator Reed responded by assuring him that the countries would engage to work on their bilateral relations.

According to a press release by the embassy, Ambassador Masood Khan also told the Senator, “Pakistan and the US have enjoyed close defense cooperation in the past and would like to build on their existing security bonds.”

He pointed out that as a significant number of defence platforms used by Pakistan were American, they required support to be sustained.

He added that “new avenues could also be explored,” recalling that the armed forces of the two countries have worked together previously and saying that the “two countries would continue to partner with each other in political and economic spheres.”

He told Senator Reed about the security circumstances in the region and about Afghanistan as well as the most recent efforts to bring about peace growth in the area.

Ambassador Masood Khan mentioned that Pakistan’s greatest priorities were development and economic feasibility.

Working in concordance with the US had opened possibilities and the two countries aimed to improve long-standing broad-based ties.

The Pakistani envoy was welcomed by Senator Reed who expressed his belief that as the US and Pakistan celebrate the 75th anniversary of their diplomatic relations, the ties between the two countries would grow.

Senator Reed also “gladly” accepted Ambassador Masood Khan’s invitation to visit Pakistan.
