Anarkali explosion: Visitors from K-P, Sindh, Balochistan among blast casualties

Jan 21, 2022: Anarkali explosion led to the bone fracturing in most victims with casualties from K-P, Sindh, Balochistan.

According to a report by Express Tribune, apart from Lahore, the victims of the Anarkali blast included residents of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, South Punjab and several other districts of the province. Absar Salman, a nine-year-old boy who was killed in the incident, had come from Karachi to visit his uncle. He died at the hospital.

Muhammad Razman Botha, a resident of Lahore, died on the spot. Rahim Yar Khan resident Yasir Ali, 16, died at the hospital after a few hours of struggling to live.

A medical official told the Express Tribune that most of the victims had broken bones and suffered burns. After transporting the injured to Mayo Hospital, horrific scenes were witnessed. A large number of injured were shifted to hospitals. They were crying and screaming for help. Meanwhile, senior government officials and important personalities from various walks of life also visited the site.

Security measures were stepped up at the hospital, which also caused distress to the patients’ families. The government declared an emergency at the hospital and called all the staff on duty.

Punjab Health Minister Yasmeen Rashid directed the doctors and staff of Mayo Hospital to be present and provide best services. The hospital’s medical superintendent is personally overseeing the treatment of injured patients, he said. The Minister directed the hospital administration to post the list of injured.

The Secretary Provincial Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education asked all staff members to remain alert. He appealed to the audience to cooperate with the hospital management. Chief Secretary Kamran Ali Afzal and Inspector General of Police Rao Sardar Ali Khan visited Mayo and Services Hospitals and inspected the injured.

The IGP said that the police and intelligence agencies were working hard to bring the culprits behind bars as soon as possible. The MS of Mayo Hospital and the Deputy MS of Services Hospital briefed the Chief Secretary on the treatment facilities. Police officials issued orders to tighten security across the province after the blast.
