Anti-riot police unit set up in Karachi to deal with violent protests

Nov 16, 2021: To deal with riots and other situations that threaten law and order situation in Karachi, an anti-riots force of 500 personnel of Sindh Police Security Division and Special Security Unit (SSU) has been set up for the city.

A spokesman for the security division said that the force was formed under the direction of Additional Inspector General of Police Karachi and DIG Security and Emergency Services Division Maqsood to deal with riots and other situations created by miscreants to threaten law and order.

This decision was taken in a meeting chaired by Additional IGP. The force will assist local police and other law enforcement agencies in emergencies.

DIG Ahmed said the anti-riot force consists of well-trained SSU commandos and security division personnel and is equipped with state-of-the-art anti-rights gadgets. He said that it would be vigilant 24 hours a day to respond to any adverse situation, adding that it was also capable of thwarting the nefarious plots of miscreants.
