Some two decades ago a handsome Fast Bowler from Sheikhupura decided to hang up his boots at the peak of his career aged 27. Lots of speculation gathered around the reasons for this pre mature exit from the game with some labelling as loss of form and others as fitness issues however, the real reason why this fine Fast bowler with a smooth and flowing run up and a beautifully coordinated side on action was far from the norm, it was to stand up against match fixing against senior players in the team.
The mans character speaks for it self by ending a lucrative playing career and deciding at the age of 27 to become a professionally qualified cricket coach.
Aqib Javed is the only coach in Pakistan that has worked with grassroots levels to the top of the ladder with the national UAE, Pakistan, Bangladesh and recently Sri Lankan teams. Apart from this his impressive resume extends to being a coach at the prestigious ICC cricket academy.
Enter Lahore Qalandars
Aqib’s main achievement thus far has been the 8 year stint at the leading Pakistan franchise in Lahore qalandars. He shook hands with the energetic Rana brothers and steered their vision into execution with a brilliant cricket mind.
First time in Pakistan suddenly a franchise began to identify and produce world class talent in Haris Rauf, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Fakhr Zaman to name a few. Suddenly the talent identification success started to hold an annual open trial for the aspiring cricketers with thousands crushing the gates hoping to escape financial burdens in exchange for their talent. The motto was simple “your talent our platform”.
The Lahore Qalandars talent hunt program had won accolades by the pundits who clearly measured the success of the program compared to the ineffective practices in the Pakistan cricket Board.
The inclusion of Aqib Javed will ensure a no non sense selection, player welfare, grass root level investment as well as domestic structural reforms.
As we recently witnessed the omission of Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi as the first step in the right direction rest assured as long as Aqib Javed remains in the system the players rifts and poor performances will be laid to rest through zero tolerance policy.
