The Gilgit-Baltistan government, facing a tense situation for over a week, has refuted reports of army deployment, clarifying that it has requested the assistance of the Pakistan Army and civil armed forces solely to maintain law and order during the upcoming chehlum of Imam Hussain next week.

In response to recent insensitive remarks made by two clerics from different schools of thought, which deeply offended their respective communities, the authorities have taken measures. Mobile internet services in the region have been suspended until further notice.

The situation escalated on September 1 when demonstrations, organized by Anjuman-i-Imamia, took place in Gilgit city and its surrounding areas following derogatory comments allegedly made by prominent cleric Maulana Qazi Nisar Ahmed during a protest in Gilgit. The protesters were demanding action against the cleric.
