Asian Hockey Champions Trophy: India beats Pakistan by 1-3
Baaghi TV: India beat Pakistan by 1-3 in a group match of Hockey Asian Champions Trophy in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh.
Junaid Manzoor scored the only goal for Pakistan in the match played on Friday. While Harmanpreet Singh scored two goals and Akash Deep Singh scored one goal for India and played a key role in their team’s victory.
Apart from Pakistan and India, teams from South Korea, Japan, Malaysia and the host Bangladesh are participating in the tournament. India currently tops the points table with seven points. South Korea and Japan are second and third with two points each.
Pakistan has managed to draw its first match against Japan and is at the fourth position in the points table.
In the Asian Champions Trophy, Pakistan and India have the honor of being champions for the most number of times while both the teams will jointly defend their title in the event. India won the first Asian Champions Trophy in China in 2011 and Pakistan won the Asian Championship in Qatar in 2012. In 2013, Pakistan once again defended its title in Japan and won the Asian Champions Trophy. In 2016, India managed to win the title again in Malaysia.
In the Asian Champions Trophy to be held in Oman in 2018, Pakistan and India were declared joint champions when the final match could not be held due to harsh weather and heavy rain.
The Indian hockey team is ranked third in the world while Pakistan is ranked 18th in the world.
The semi-finals of the event will be played on December 21 and the final on December 22 in Dhaka.
