KARACHI: Terrorists attacked the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSE), killing six people, including a policeman, while forces retaliated by killing four terrorists.

According to police, around 10 am on this morning (Monday), four terrorists first hurled a hand grenade at the gate of the stock exchange and then opened fire indiscriminately. As soon as the incident was reported, a heavy contingent of police and Rangers reached the spot and launched the operation.

According to police, police and Rangers personnel entered the stock exchange and in retaliation killed three terrorists while one terrorist was killed in the hall of the stock exchange.

A police spokesman said that a civilian was killed in the attack while four security guards of the stock exchange, including a police sub-inspector, were martyred and seven others, including a policeman, were injured.

Security personnel also cordoned off the surrounding areas after the attack, while II Chandragar Road was closed to traffic from Meri Weather Tower and Shaheen Complex after the attack.

Police say the terrorists were armed with sophisticated weapons and had explosives-laden jackets.

 

Four terrorists killed: Karachi police chief

Karachi Police Chief Ghulam Nabi Memon termed the attack as a failure and said that four terrorists tried to attack the stock exchange but the forces retaliated in full force as a result of which all four terrorists were killed.

Ghulam Nabi Memon said the terrorists came from the parking area in a silver car with weapons and ammunition which were seized by the forces.

The Additional IG said that the terrorists were dressed like policemen, now the situation is under control and a search operation is underway on suspicion of other accomplices of the terrorists.

A Sindh Rangers spokesman also confirmed that all the terrorists were killed in the operation and said that a clearance operation was underway at the stock exchange.

According to police, the building has been completely evacuated for clearance operation and the operation is being carried out by closing the building.

Police officials said that modern weapons, grenades and other items belonging to the terrorists were also seized while registration information of the vehicle used by the terrorists is being obtained and further investigation will be carried out after finding out the owner of the vehicle.

Director Stock Exchange talks

Director Pakistan Stock Exchange Abid Ali Habib while talking to a new channel on telephone said that terrorists came in the parking area and opened fire indiscriminately, our guards resisted the terrorists.

Abid Ali Habib said the terrorists also opened fire on the grounds and trading hall of the stock exchange, causing a stampede and forcing people to enter nearby buildings.

Abid Ali Habib said that the primary offices of 150 out of 200 members are present in the stock exchange. We locked ourselves in the offices after the incident.

MDPS talk

MDPS Farrukh Khan while talking to a news channel said that our own security responded very well at the time of the attack while the police and Rangers took immediate action to control the situation.

He said that due to Corona, the number of people was less, otherwise there would be 5,000 to 6,000 people under normal circumstances.

Farrukh Khan said the situation was under control and trading did not stop for a minute due to the attack.
