Australia: Cricket chiefs revealed that they were helping a police investigation concerning harassment charges that an under-19 cricketer was physically attacked while on visit in India and Sri Lanka during the 1980s.

Cricket Australia said it upheld ex-Australian under-19 Jamie Mitchell, who claims that he was assaulted during the tour by a group official.

“We recognize and appreciate Jamie Mitchell’s confidence in speaking out,” the chief said in an assertion, adding that it was “completely helping” a police test.

“We have no tolerance policy for any harassment,” said Chief Cricket Australia, Nick Hockley. Mitchell told ABC he was physically attacked in Colombo on the final evening of the visit in 1985.

A group official named in the ABC report denied the misdemeanor and no charges have been made.

“Rather than being a highlight of my cricketing life, that visit has caused me great trauma over the past years,” Mitchell reportedly said in a statement presented by his legal advisors to Australian media.

“Cricket Australia gets an opportunity to separate itself by looking up to this issue and making the best choice. Furthermore that implies straightforwardness, beginning with appropriate responses to many inquiries. I will send a rundown of them to Cricket Australia.”

Previous Australian commander Greg Chappell, who was a public selector at the hour of the supposed assault, told Nine Entertainment papers that he was dismayed by the charges.

“I would trust that Cricket Australia will react humanly and manage the people instead of attempting to shield the association,” he said.

“It was a stunning disclosure. I would have trusted in no way like that had occurred, yet authenticity lets you know that different everyday issues have seen something like that continue.”

A representative for the Australian Federal Police said they don’t remark on “explicit examinations”.
