Australian cricketers exit quarantine after fleeing India

Sydney, May 31, 2021: Australian cricketers who fled Covid-ravaged India when the IPL was suspended earlier this month were released from quarantine in Sydney on Monday, subsequent to going through 14 days of isolation in hotel rooms.
Steve Smith, David Warner and Pat Cummins were among the players, coaches and officials who finished the obligatory quarantine in the wake of returning on a charter flight from the Maldives. Warner posted videos on his Instagram account that showed him reuniting with his little girls, prior to adding a clip of the ocean subtitled “It’s great to be home”.
Fast bowler Jason Behrendorff told public telecaster ABC it was “nice to have fresh air air” in the wake of leaving quarantine. “It’s always tough being stuck some place, and realizing that we’re ready to return home was a relief, and now we’re out of quarantine, I can hardly wait to return home and see my family,” he said.
The 38 member group had been evacuated from India after the Indian Premier League, the world’s most extravagant cricket competition, was suspended on May 4 as Covid cases surged in the country. They went through around 10 days in the Maldives before the Australian government lifted a transitory prohibition on residents who had been in India from traveling home.
The IPL began toward the beginning of April, decided to go on despite an existing health emergency promoting criticism from observers, while others defended it as a much needed diversion for the beleaguered Indian public. India’s public cricket board declared Saturday that the competition, which had finished around a large portion of its games, will be played to an end in the United Arab Emirates in September and October.
