Australia’s greatest leg-spinner Shane Keith Warne reportedly passed away at the age of 52. Warne’s manager issued a statement confirming that the cricketer was “found unresponsive” and could not be “revived” despite the best efforts.

Regarded as one of the finest bowlers in history, Warne was born to an Australian father and German mother, played his first match in 1992, and managed to take over 1,000 international wickets. According to reports, Warne passed away of a suspected heart attack. Just days before his death, Warne took to Twitter to tweet about his future plans that included shredding weight.

It is pertinent to note that, shredding weight or ‘cutting diet’ aims to help a person lose fat while maintaining muscle. According to Medical News Today, bodybuilders and other fitness enthusiasts are known for using the cutting diet as a form of losing weight in a short time frame. Generally, this is done prior to an event, or as part of their training plans.

Shane Warne reportedly announced “Operation shred” in a tweet marked 28th February 2022. The versatile cricketer tweeted, “Operation shred has started (10 days in) & the goal by July is to get back to this shape from a few years ago ! Let’s go 💪🏻👏🏻 #heathy #fitness #feelgoodfriday”.

According to Yahoo! Sport, the Australian Drug Agency (ADA) had carried out a test on 22nd January for use of diuretics. Prior to this, Warne had been banned from cricket for a year for his use of diuretics in 2003. It is pertinent to note that a diuretic is a pill for losing weight quickly and is known for being dangerous if taken in larger quantities. According to Mayo Clinic, “Diuretics, also called water pills, are a common treatment for high blood pressure… [they] help rid your body of salt (sodium) and water. Most of these medicines help your kidneys release more sodium into your urine. The sodium helps remove water from your blood, decreasing the amount of fluid flowing through your veins and arteries. This reduces blood pressure”.

In addition, Warne was on holiday in Thailand when he passed away. He is survived by three children and an ex-wife, Simone Callahan. He was also engaged to English actress and model, Elizabeth Hurly (popularly known as Liz Hurley). Moments before he passed away, Warne was expressing grief at the passing of Rod Marsh. He tweeted: “He was a legend of our great game & inspiration to so many young boys & girls”.
