Balakh Sher Mazari, former caretaker prime minister laid to rest

On Sunday, funeral prayers for former Pakistani interim prime minister Sardar Mir Balakh Sher Mazari were held in his village of Rojhan in Rajabpur District.

Mazari, chief of the Mazari tribe, passed away on November 4 at the age of 94 in a private hospital in Lahore after a protracted illness.

Following PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif’s cabinet dismissal by then-president Ghulam Ishaq Khan in 1993, Mazari was designated Pakistan’s interim prime minister. The Supreme Court of Pakistan quickly terminated Mazari’s term after rescinding the presidential order.

The former prime minister and PPP leader Yousaf Raza Gilani attended the burial, National Assembly Opposition Leader Raja Riaz and other political leaders.

At the funeral, Dost Muhammad Mazari, grandson of Mazari and former deputy speaker of the Punjab Assembly and dissident member of the PTI, was also present.
