Rashad Hussain, a senior official with the American Institute for Religious Freedom, said in a statement on the social networking site Twitter that prohibiting the wearing of the hijab in educational institutions by the Indian state of Karnataka is in violation of an individual’s religious freedom. According to Hussain, “Religious freedom includes the ability to choose one’s religious attire”.
Religious freedom includes the ability to choose one's religious attire. The Indian state of Karnataka should not determine permissibility of religious clothing. Hijab bans in schools violate religious freedom and stigmatize and marginalize women and girls.

He added that banning the hijab is tantamount to killing religious freedom. According to Hussain, forcing women and girls to choose clothes is going to “stigmatize and marginalize” them further. “The Indian state of Karnataka should not determine [the] permissibility of religious clothing”, he added.

No less than US ambassador of religious freedom have spoken on the #KarnatakaHijabRow. The issue went truly international while Indian Supreme Court said in the morning, "Don't make it a national issue. Let Karnataka High Court handle it."
