‘Batman’ director Joel Schumacher, dies at 80

Wednesday, June 24th: Joel Schumacher, director of the popular American series Batman, has died of cancer at the age of 80.

Joel Schumacher, director of two films in the Batman series, two series in the drama House of Cards, and several successful Hollywood films, has died of cancer.

Director Joel Schumacher was born and died in New York City. Schumacher’s successful films include Batman for Ever, St. Illinois Fire and Lost Boys. He also directed The Incredible Shrinking Woman, starring Lily Tomlin.

Prior to entering the film industry, he worked in the fashion industry as a costume designer for Woody Allen Sleeper & Interiors. His first screenplay was in the 1976 musical drama Sparkle, starring Erin Cara and later recreated with Whitney Houston. He started working as a director in 1981.
