KARACHI: The administration woke up after a chemical explosion in Beirut and took security measures.
According to the reports, Commissioner Karachi sought details of the port and industrial areas to be safe from the Beirut-style tragedy. The Commissioner Karachi also sought details of deposits of ammonium nitrate and other chemicals in ports and industrial areas.
Commissioner Karachi Iftikhar Shalawani has sought the above details from the Deputy Commissioners and organizations representing the industrial areas and directed that all the data be provided as soon as possible.
Commissioner Karachi also issued an order in this regard stating that storage of hazardous chemicals like ammonium nitrate is prohibited. Factories will have to submit all documents before importing the said chemical after which an investigation will be conducted.
The order states that any company will be allowed to import chemicals only after an investigation.
It should be noted that five days ago, a terrible explosion took place in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, as a result of which many kilometers away, destruction and buildings were affected.
It should be noted that the death toll from the blasts at the Beirut port has reached 157, while more than 5,000 injured are being treated in various hospitals, the army has been given full powers to control the situation.
