Washington, 26th February: US President Joe Biden told Saudi King Salman that he would work for strong bilateral ties with Saudi Arabia.
Baaghi TV: According to reports from the White House, Joe Biden on Thursday told Saudi King he would work for bilateral ties as strong and transparent as possible.
The statement came out ahead of the expected release of a sensitive US intelligence report on the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi in 2018.
Sources say that the report is a declassified version of a top-secret assessment that points out that the king’s son Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman approved the murder of Khashoggi in the kingdom’s consulate in Istanbul.
A source told Reuters that the release of the report got delayed as the crown prince underwent surgery earlier this week.
According to earlier reports from Baaghi TV, Khashoggi was a US resident and a journalist in the Washington Post, who wrote columns critical of the crown prince’s policies.
The release of the declassified report on Khashoggi’s death is part of Biden’s reforms of the US-Saudi relations and Biden wants to maintain strong ties with one of Washington’s closest Arab allies.
It is to be noted that Khashoggi was killed by a team of Saudi operatives linked to the crown prince in Istanbul on Oct 2, 2018. They mutilated his body, which has never been found.
