Bilateral Trade with Afghanistan Continues: Abdul Razzaq Dawood
LAHORE: Trade Adviser Abdul Razzaq Dawood has said that the Taliban’s occupation of Afghanistan has not affected trade activities and they are continuing without any stops.
Reports state that the United Nations Industrial Development Organization along with Pakistan Footwear Manufacturers Association has inaugurated the Pakistan Footwear Design Hub.
Talking to reporters on the occasion, Abdul Razzaq Dawood said that they are aware of the situation in Afghanistan, and although there are problems, Pak-Afghan trade has not slowed down and trucks are passing through without stopping along Torkham and other land borders.
“There is no trade with India. At the moment, we need to focus on our western borders. We will look at the eastern border later,” he added.
Replying to a question, he said that GSP Plus status was given to Pakistan for 2 years and now efforts are underway to extend it for another 2 years.
The trade adviser further claimed that the government’s well-crafted policies have made Pakistan a mobile phone exporter.
According to him, in July this year, for the first time, Pakistan exported 5,000 to 10,000 mobile phones to different countries. The old culture of importing everything has been eradicated, he said.
Abdul Razzaq Dawood further said that Pakistan is not the only country in the world where the prices of essential commodities and food items have gone up.
Regarding the dollar price going up despite receiving $3 billion from the IMF and $2 billion remittances, he said that if the dollar remained at Rs 160-165 or less, it would not be a problem for the country.
