Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will visit India next month to attend Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) ministerial meeting.

According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, Bilawal will travel to Indian city of Goa along with a delegation. The Pakistani foreign minister will also hold a series of meetings on the sidelines of the SCO huddle.

Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahrah Baloch announced in her weekly news briefing: “Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will be leading the Pakistan delegation to the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) being held on May 4-5 2023, in Goa, India.”

Ms Baloch said the Pakistani foreign minister would be attending the SCO CFM meeting at the invitation of the current chairman of SCO CFM, Minister for External Affairs of the Republic of India Dr S Jaishankar.

“​Our participation in the meeting reflects Pakistan’s commitment to the SCO Charter and processes and the importance that Pakistan accords to the region in its foreign policy priorities,” she added.

Bilawal’s visit to India will be the first by any Pakistani government minister after 2016 when Sartaj Aziz went to the neighbouring country.
