Lahore, 19th April: British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has cancelled his trip to India.

According to reports, UK’s Boris Johnson on Monday cancelled his trip to India that was scheduled to take place next week amid the rising number of coronavirus cases in the country.

As per reports, Boris Johnson had earlier postponed his trip in January this year due to the surge in coronavirus cases in the UK. But this time the number of infections in India has reached an alarming rate.

Johnson’s office released a joint statement by the British and Indian Government that read, “In the light of the current coronavirus situation, Prime Minister Boris Johnson will not be able to travel to India next week. Instead, Prime Ministers Modi and Johnson will speak later this month to agree and launch their ambitious plans for the future partnership between the UK and India.”

It is to be noted that Britain has invited India to attend the G7 summit which will be hosted in June in the UK, as relations with India are important to continue trade outside the European Union and to gain more influence in the Indo-Pacific region.
